How to Get a Parcel Shipping Quote
Shipping a box shouldn't mean checking carrier websites one by one. Use the parcel calculator above to see your shipping options and prices in one place.
- Enter Your Route - Your U.S. ship-from zip code, plus the destination country and zip code.
- Add Your Package Details - Weight, length, width and height, the value you want to insure, and whether the package contains hazardous materials.
- Compare Service Levels - See prices side by side for each service, from economical ground delivery to next-day air.
- Buy Your Label and Drop Off - Log in to purchase your shipping label online, then drop your package off at one of the carrier's authorized locations.
What Determines Parcel Shipping Rates?
| Pricing Factor | What It Means | Why It Changes Your Quote |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | The actual weight of your package. | Heavier packages cost more to move. |
| Dimensional Weight | Weight based on box size (length × width × height). | Carriers charge whichever is greater, actual or dimensional weight, so a large, light box can cost more than a small, heavy one. |
| Distance and Zones | How far the package travels. | Carriers price by zone; the farther the destination zone, the higher the rate. |
| Service Level | How fast the package is delivered. | Ground is the most economical; 3-day, 2nd-day and next-day air cost progressively more. |
| Insurance and Special Handling | Declared value, hazardous contents, residential or Saturday delivery. | Extra coverage and special handling add fees. |
Pro Tip: Measure your box after it's packed and round each side up to the next inch. If the dimensions you enter are smaller than the real box, the carrier can adjust the charge after pickup.
Parcel, LTL or FTL: Which Should You Choose?
- Choose parcel for individual boxes that one person can lift and that ship as separate packages.
- Choose LTL for palletized freight that's too big or heavy for parcel carriers. Compare rates with our LTL Freight Quote Calculator.
- Choose FTL when your freight fills most of a trailer. Get a quote with our FTL Freight Quote Calculator.
Parcel Shipping FAQs
Which parcel services can I compare?
You can compare parcel services from UPS, FedEx and DHL, including UPS Ground, 3 Day Select, 2nd Day Air and Next Day Air with early-morning and Saturday delivery options.
Do you offer pickup, or do I drop off the package?
Parcel shipments are drop-off: once your label is ready, take the package to one of the carrier's authorized locations.
Can I ship parcels internationally?
Yes. Choose the destination country on the form to see international services such as UPS Worldwide Express, Worldwide Expedited, Worldwide Saver and Standard to Canada.
What is dimensional weight?
It's a pricing method that accounts for the space a package takes up. Carriers compare the dimensional weight with the actual weight and charge the higher of the two.
